University of Nigeria Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Undergraduate Programme:

The undergraduate program leads to the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) Degree from the University of Nigeria. Students pursuing this degree can enter either a six-year program (90%) through the University Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) or a five-year program (10%) via direct entry. Those in the six-year track dedicate their first year (pre-med) to courses in biology, physics, chemistry, and zoology.

Meanwhile, students admitted to the five-year program must have obtained a First Degree in related fields or passed Advanced level biology, chemistry, and physics exams; they commence their medical education in the second year. Following the pre-med phase, students spend 18 months studying Basic Medical Sciences, including Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Medical Biochemistry, along with introductory courses in Community Medicine and Psychological Medicine. Subsequently, there is a 12-month training period in Basic Clinical Sciences, covering Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Pathology (encompassing Morbid Anatomy, Haematology/Immunology, Chemical pathology, and Medical Microbiology), as well as introductory clinical sciences. The final three years are dedicated to rotations in clinical departments and further studies in Community Medicine.
